Junior Software Developer

Developers at APAX are consultants as much as hands-on coders. Junior Developers play a significant role in not only building client apps but helping our clients figure out what to build. Developers work closely with designers, collaborating on the overall look, feel, usability and flow, as well as coding new applications.

APAX developers have the power to push for new ideas and help clients understand the value of our work. Our junior developers are given great autonomy and support from experienced developers. They work in small teams with more experienced developers that provide coaching and mentorship.  In addition to experienced developers, our junior developers will also work with designers, project managers, and customers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Complete assigned tasks ranging from new features, enhancements, bug resolution, and unit testing

  • Program in a team environment. Display an eagerness towards learning and professional growth

  • Participate in the full development lifecycle including requirements gathering, estimation, development, QA testing, and deployment

  • Consult with clients, helping them identify business problems and figuring out how to solve them with technology and agile work processes

  • Easily cross the boundaries between front-and-back-end development

  • Have experience shipping projects to production, as well as fine-tuning and maintaining those apps

  • Embrace an agile development process and open source tools

  • Attend status meetings and provide detailed updates of assigned work and projected completion dates

 

Desired Skills:

  • Completion of a coding bootcamp program, 4 yr college degree, or equivalent education background

  • Hands-on experience with modern development tools and concepts (Git, Agile, TDD, UI/UX design)

  • Proven ability to develop and deploy web applications using modern backend (Django, Laravel, Rails, etc) and frontend (React, Angular, etc) frameworks

  • Ability to learn rapidly on the job and receive ongoing mentorship from mid and senior-level developers, project managers, and senior management

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to work on-site in Lexington, KY 5 days a week
